The Unique Power of the Greek Blue
The verdant and flourishing with greenery and nature island Zakynthos, internationally known as Zante, belongs to chain of Greek Islands stretching along the west coast of Greece in the Ionian Sea (Heptanese, i.e. "Seven Islands"), featuring venetian architecture, classical musicality, greenness and sensational glitter ocean in all shades of blue. Wrapped in the fragrances of its flowers, Fiore de Levante (Flower of the East), according to Venetians who ruled the island for four centuries, is a popular tourist destination distinctive for the Italianate influence and the beaches-sights like the Shipwreck Beach (Navagio) and the Blue Caves natural limestone formations, two of the most iconic sights of the island, and possibly Greece. Zante, the third largest amongst the islands of the Ionian Sea, is possessing enormous natural beauty that attracts visitors from all over the world to try out the worlds famous top beach challenge or simply enjoy sunbathing sessions in picturesque spots. The beaches of the island are considered to be among the most beautiful beaches in Greece and are packed with things to do like windsurfing, snorkelling, scuba diving. When you are not hitting the clubs along the lively beaches of the south in Laganas Gulf, which actually constitutes the first National Marine Park of the country, you'll find the more low-key north that has escaped mass tourism, while on the east part of the island are gathered most of the family villa rentals. The West coast's boat tours is an awe-inspiring moment to admire this natural rock formation of Shipwreck and Limnionas. The island of Zante stands out for its cultural golden age of 19th century, as its people were notable in music, theatre and literature. Called also the singing island has a remarkable musical tradition due to its distinctive musicality, the sounds of Zakynthian "cantata" accompany social gatherings and fests, while the local Greek dialect can be described as a 'sing-song', with strong Italian influence on the vocabulary and pronunciation. The mix of Greek and Italian elements is also obvious in the city's architecture. with favourite spot the famous Mpochali district and in the atmosphere of the stone villages of Macherado, Lithakia and Kiliomenos. Some "secretly" settlements, such as Loucha, Anafonitria and Kambi, are characterized by a rural tranquillity hard to get nowadays.
